I am a Tucson native and spent my young adult years running calls as a firefighter/paramedic for the Tucson Fire Department. I lived the smell of the calls, the weight of the gear, and the toll this job can take on the mind, body, and family. Beyond my firsthand experience in the field, I am also a firefighter’s wife and mother of two, so I understand the hardships this profession can place on the entire family.
Since leaving the fire department, I’ve traded the medic bag for clinical tools and a deeper focus on mental health care. I studied nursing at the University of Arizona and worked in the Neuro ICU before spending more than five years as a psychiatric nurse in both inpatient behavioral health and an electroconvulsive therapy clinic. I followed this by continuing at the University of Arizona to earn my doctorate in psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.
Which leads me to today….
I created Shaka Mental Wellness with a foundation built on my experience, education, and training to provide trusted, high-quality, and understanding psychiatric care to the first responder community. I specialize in tactical longevity, helping the men and women on the front lines maintain the mental resilience needed to finish their careers as strong as they started, while also supporting the overall wellness their families deserve.
Shaka Mental Wellness was founded to support mental resilience and holistic well-being. We offer compassionate, expert care tailored for first responders, mindfulness practitioners, and those seeking mental health support in a serene environment.
My approach to psychiatric care is centered on trusted support, confidentiality, and zero judgment. I understand that mental health in the first responder community is not about weakness, but about being fit for duty, present for family, and able to reach one’s full potential both on and off the job. I also recognize that seeking help, whether through therapy, medication, or integrated psychiatric approaches, can be difficult for many. My goal is to help bridge the gap between the tactical world and evidence-based psychiatric medicine through both professional expertise and personal understanding.
